2022 Wagoneer vs Ford Expedition

Today the SUV battle is scaling up. We’re comparing two massive three-row beasts. It’s time to see if the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer has what it takes to tackle the 2022 Ford Expedition. The Ford Expedition has been the best large SUV for years, but now the Jeep Wagoneer enters the arena as a newcomer. Which SUV is the biggest? Which one has the most power? These questions will be answered and more, outlining how the Wagoneer, Expedition stack up against each other.

2022 Wagoneer Power & Handling

A 5.7-liter e-Torque V8 engine propels the 2022 Wagoneer. This powertrain has been augmented by a belt-driven 48-volt mild hybrid system that provides smooth automatic restarts and extra off-the-line torque. This iron-block V8 produces 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque. In addition, a proven 8-speed automatic transmission has been paired to the 5.7-liter to deliver an outstanding tow capacity of 10,000 pounds.

2022 Expedition Power & Handling

Ford gave the Expedition a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that makes a perfectly respectable 375 horsepower which falls 17 horsepower short of the Wagoneer. Rear-wheel drive is the default setup, with 4-wheel drive available as an option, although the Timberline has the 4-wheel drive as standard. A 10-speed automatic transmission is deployed across the board to deliver a towing capacity of 9,300-pounds.

2022 Wagoneer Features

The Wagoneer’s interior is a special place with cut-above styling and premium levels of luxury. You will find Nappa leather upholstery and a 12.0-inch screen. The new Uconnect 5 system comes with Tom-Tom navigation, five user profiles, and eleven USB ports. Plus, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, including a wireless charging pad and a WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices. The Wagoneer offers 39 inches of headroom in the far back, 36 inches of legroom, 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the back, which increases to 70.8 when the seat is folded. There is a max cargo capacity of 116.7 cubic feet.

2022 Expedition Features

The 2022 Expedition comes with cloth upholstery or extended leather-bound interiors, with three rows of seating. Ford gave the Expedition an optional new infotainment touchscreen. It measures 15.5 inches on the diagonal, about as large as it gets outside of a Tesla. Legroom for the second and third rows are 42.6 and 40.9 inches. Regardless of whether it’s a Max or not, even tall adults will be fine in the rearmost seats. There are 20.9 cubic feet which expands to 121.5 cubic feet 104.6 when rows two and three are folded down. All of which is decent but falls short of the Wagoneer.
