The all-new Grand Cherokee L has two available engines. Standard under the hood is a 290-horsepower 3.6L V6 with 257 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7L V8 engine offers more power across the board with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Both Grand Cherokee L engines are paired with a sturdy TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. A maximum towing capacity of 6,200 pounds achieved by the V6 engine can but upgraded to 7,200 pounds with the V8 engine. The standard rear-wheel drive can be replaced with one of three available full-time four-wheel-drive systems, Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with an electronic limited-slip rear differential. Quadra-Trac I operates with a single-speed transfer case, while Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II use a two-speed transfer case with Active 4-Low mode.
